As part of Georgia’s coordinated response to human trafficking, POWER Atlanta contributes survivor-centered insight, community outreach, and training—especially for youth, LGBTQ+ individuals, and system-impacted populations.
Know Your Rights as a Survivor
We guide survivors through the protections outlined in these key laws:
Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
VAWA protects survivors of:
- Domestic violence
- Sexual assault
- Dating violence
- Stalking
It ensures access to:
- Safe housing
- Protection orders
- Survivor advocacy
- Immigration-related options (with trusted legal partners)
Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA)
TVPA protects survivors of sex and labor trafficking with:
- Access to safety services and housing
- Legal relief and protective pathways
- Confidential support, even without reporting to law enforcement
We provide education, outreach, and trusted legal referrals.
Georgia Survivor Justice Act (HB 582)
Survivors who were forced into criminalized behavior—such as during trafficking or abuse—can now request reduced or vacated sentences under Georgia law.
We help eligible individuals understand the process and connect to survivor-safe legal assistance.
